"New" was the key word for Canadian pro football in 2015, and the new 2015 Pro Season for COLD SNAP Canadian Pro Football Game lets you re-live it—anew!

Canadian pro football had a fresh, new look for 2015: there was a new commissioner, new TV deal, and new rules for point-after-touchdown conversions. To provide an exclamation point, the league even introduced a new logo, a football with three stripes, representing Canadian pro football's "three downs" distinction.

The theme of "new" carried into the post-season, too. For the first time in over thirty years, three teams from Ontario qualified for the playoffs as Hamilton, Ottawa and Toronto each posted winning records. But Ottawa's leap from doormat to eastern division champion in just the second year of its pro football re-boot was far-and-away the league's biggest story. Led by its venerable veteran QB, Ottawa went from 2-16 in its inaugural 2014 season to 12-6 in 2015, the biggest jump for any expansion team in North American pro sports history. On November 22nd, the club knocked off Hamilton 35-28 on a stunning 93-yard touchdown pass with only a minute to play, putting a team from Ottawa in the Canadian pro football championship game for the first time since 1981.

The western division was a two-horse race between the league's two top teams, Edmonton and Calgary—and it ended in a photo finish at 14-4. Edmonton was crowned champion thanks to winning two of three head-to-head meetings, but it was a moot point three weeks later when Calgary came to town for the game that would decide a berth in the title game against upstart Ottawa. Edmonton's savvy QB responded with one of his best games of the year, passing for three touchdowns and running for two more in a 45-31 win.

In the Canadian pro football title game, Ottawa bolted to a quick 13-0 lead on a pair of early TD passes, but the Eskies surged back to take a 17-16 lead at the half. Defence dominated the second half, with Edmonton re-gaining the lead at the three-minute warning, for what proved to be the winning points in a 26-20 victory.

As is always the case with the wide-open Canadian league, there were plenty of big numbers piled up in 2015 by the league's stars. Ottawa's 40 year-old pivot passed for over 5500 yards, the oldest player ever to lead the Canadian pro league in that category. Toronto's up-and-coming passer threw for over 30 major scores, and Hamilton's young star tossed 25 in two-thirds of a season before being knocked out of action with an injury. Ten players netted over 1000 yards catching passes, and three runners cleared the 1000-yard rushing mark. But many of the biggest numbers were posted on the defensive side of the ball. Montreal's fleet DE was a nightmare for Candian passers, getting to the quarterback 19 times for sacks. A trio of defenders from BC, Ottawa and Hamilton led the league in interceptions with six each. In keeping with the Canadian style of play, there was a host of fast, smart linebackers who rode herd over the wide-open offences. Three of them amassed 100 tackles or more, tying a league record for most defenders to reach that total in the same season.
